Job Details
Reporting to the Head of Projects, the lead designer will take the lead role in the design and project management of the University's capital projects across a mixed-use estate portfolio of research and teaching facilities, student residences, social and hospitality space, sports facilities and commercial space.

My client is a large public sector organisation in the West Midlands, with a very exciting estate that are going through a significant amount of investment and development on their estate.
Description
The Lead Designer's main activities and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Leading on the design for the delivery of 'Capital Projects' including space management, capital and minor project management, quality control and contract management using internal and external resources and expertise in-line with best practice to ensure projects are managed effectively and delivered in-line with approved budgets
- Leading manage and co-ordinate the delivery of Design for building works, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Cost Management, Project Management and Space Planning
- Leading the design team on the Delivery of estate reconfiguration and improvement projects, working closely with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met.
- Establishing project objectives, needs, and budget
- Leading on the development of conceptual, feasibility, outline and detailed design proposals and drawings
- Ensuring drawings are all produced on AutoCAD and /or BIM e.g. Revit
- Leading on the preparation of specifications for materials and finishes
- Coordinating the design team including Services Engineers, Surveyors etc., to ensure all necessary project information is produced in a timely fashion
- Preparing and presenting design proposals to colleagues and Executives and Board of Governors
- Meeting with construction professionals and contractors to discuss feasibility of designs
Profile
The successful Lead Designer will have a proven track record of leading and managing refurbishment and new build schemes from inception to completion across technically complex estate portfolios. Experience of working on projects in complex live high footfall environments is essential as is the ability to lead design teams and contractor teams in an assured manner that maintains its focus on delivering key objectives and adopts a proactive, customer focused approach in the delivery of services which support high quality environments for students, staff and other stakeholders.
Job Offer
This is either a temp to perm opportunity or a straight 9 month contract. This role sits inside of IR35, but there is a competitive daily rate on offer. What there is though is genuinely interesting and exciting projects.
