Your new employer is the UK's leading Charity Retailer. With strong commercial strategy at the heart of their retail arm, this charitable organisation has seen it's retail portfolio grow from 50 small units to 750 stores ranging in size from 4000 - 50,000 sq ft. in size. This charity generates £30m in revenue from it's retail operations alone, which is directly invested into the research and support they provide for thousands of people throughout the United Kingdom.

To sustain the strong performance of their retail operations, and in turn create profits to invest in their research, this charity relies on an extremely well managed property portfolio. This requires stores being opened in strategic locations, and existing units being refurbished to the standards expected by the charity and their retail customers.

The charity is therefore looking to take on a senior building surveyor with a strong commercial background, to cover their South Eastern Region (Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Essex, East Anglia & London) providing surveying and project management expertise across the 250 strong South Eastern portfolio.


Your new role

You will be employed as one of three Building Surveyors on the Retail Development team, reporting directly to The Development Manager. You will be responsible for overseeing the fit-outs, and refurbishments of a third of the charity's 800 unit strong retail portfolio.

You will be based at the Surrey headquarters near Kingston-Upon-Thames, and will be responsible for producing pre-acquisition surveys, measurements, and floor plans via AutoCAD.

You will produce specifications for store fit-outs as well as schedules of work. You will be responsible for contract administration and procurement of contractors for each fit-out, taking responsibility for projects of values from £50-300k, managing them from inception to completion.


What you'll need to succeed

You will need to be based in The South West London / Surrey area, as it is crucial that you are able to travel throughout the South East of England for site visits.

It is essential for you to have prior experience carrying out pre-acquisition surveys for commercial clients, as a substantial proportion of your role will be focused on this element. You will need to be able to complete them efficiently, showing excellent attention to detail.

You will need a good working knowledge of AutoCAD, as you will be required to produce floor plans for each project (the charity does not employ CAD technicians for this).

You will have strong experience in producing specifications and schedules for work, and providing contract administration for each project.

You will also receive a car allowance of £3500, as well as private medical and dental care after 6 months. There is also an employer matched pension of up to 10% Per Annum (10% employee / 10% employer) provided.

You will receive a company mobile phone as well as a laptop so that you can work flexibly from home as and when you need.

Finally, the retail development team you are joining are keen for the right candidate to progress and head up the team as retail development manager, and can offer career development if it is desired.
