B&M Retail and Heron Foods are currently looking to recruit Chartered Building Surveyors to play a key role in providing building and technical support in delivering one of the largest and exciting store roll-out programmes in the UK, comprising 50 new stores per year.

The role will require extensive travel throughout the UK for surveys, inspections and project delivery etc. with 1 day per week minimum to be based at either B&M Liverpool or Heron Foods Head Office in Hull.

The role requires an individual to undertake such surveying duties including:

•  Evaluate building issues at potential new sites as part of the pre-acquisition due diligence process;
•  Undertake property inspections and agree Specifications of Works or Schedules of Condition with landlord’s representatives;
•  Project monitoring works (Employer’s Agent role);
•  Attend PC inspections and agree Practical Completion & snagging rectification / monitoring;
•  Control of statutory compliance undertakings (Building Regulations/ AI applications, Principal Designer duties of the CDM Regulations etc);
•  Close co-ordination with Store Development &surveying colleagues;
•  Assist with the management and co-ordination of contractors within the retail development programme and existing store portfolio, providing guidance to the Store Maintenance department when/where required;
•  Management of external consultants undertaking associated professional services

e.g. dilapidations, acquisition and lease matters, party wall services etc.

The minimum requirements for this role are:

•  Educated to degree level or equivalent;
•  Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) / industry related accredited qualification in surveying & construction (RICS, CIOB etc);
•  3 to 5 years’ experience working as a building surveyor in a similar environment/role.
