Create a legacy

Our County Council is changing at pace to successfully tackle our challenges and capture the opportunities for all our communities in West Sussex. We are more than confident we have the ingredients to succeed. We now need an ambitious Director of Property & Assets to join our Leadership Team to help shape and deliver our corporate ambitions on behalf of our communities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to really influence the big-picture place strategy of one of the country’s most forward-thinking authorities. West Sussex is a unique and very diverse County with a real mix of rural, urban and coastal areas. We are blessed with a large land and asset infrastructure and are committed to ensuring we utilise this effectively so that we can drive forward and unlock our huge growth potential.

Join us, and you’ll be our principal advisor on all property and asset-related matters. Our portfolio comprises schools, libraries, fire stations, highway depots, over 250,000 sq. ft. of administrative office space and agricultural estate holdings of over 750 acres. You’ll take charge of our asset management strategy as well as our substantial capital programme, taking a long-term, place-based approach and working with a range of partners and stakeholders. With the chance to commission a variety of programmes and lead a large, diverse team, you’ll tackle all aspects of capital investment, strategic asset planning and facilities and estates management.

With a professional qualification (e.g. MRICS) and a degree (or equivalent), you’ll be a capable senior manager who’s led estates and asset services before. With this background, you’ll have detailed knowledge of the local authority asset management agenda and the ability to lead cross-service projects and initiatives. Your excellent people skills help you act as a relationship manager, dealing with external partners and expertly navigating a complex political landscape. With the ability to inspire others with your vision, you’ll work to achieve great results for West Sussex’s communities.
