My client is a provider of purpose-built student accommodation with a significant portfolio throughout the UK, providing high quality living space for almost 30,000 students each year.

They are committed to further expansion through a mixture of optimization of the existing estate, acquisition, and new build properties.

As a result of this growth and expansion my client requires an experience development manager.

The role is based in London and delivers projects on a national basis.

Role

We are looking for a Development Manager who will be responsible for the overall delivery of all construction projects in the UK.

You will be responsible to coordinate the project teams, all external consultants, contractors and local authorities.

You will be responsible for: - deal sourcing; - feasibility studies and technical due diligence; - managing planning applications; - managing the design process; - appointment of external consultants and main contractor; - management of the project execution and construction programme.

The Development Manager (DM) will work closely with Asset Management at early stages to understand and input into shaping larger accretive works.

Key Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Development Director, the DM will:

Provide early stage advice to the Asset Management team as to cost, time and practicalities for new projects and larger works to the existing estate

Actively input to the process to obtain consents, structure deals, review costs and returns

Build and maintain cost plans for projects, modelling cash flows (including financing costs) tailored to each project and deal structure

Build and lead external teams, where required, to deliver all stages of projects in a timely fashion

Provide a single point of contact with Developers for forward funded projects, and internal teams

Organise and lead the process to obtain all necessary internal stakeholder consents, as well as driving external teams to achieve milestones to programme

Lead continual improvement in quality and cost with respect to design and delivery

Pro-actively manage project risks

Ensure information flows are maintained, with regular reporting to senior management and liaison with internal stakeholders

What You Need To Have •

Strong project management ability, including ability to manage multiple projects

• Excellent organisational and deadline focused approach to management

• Excellent numerical and analytical skills

• Good technical understanding of construction, building services, University partnerships, project finance and whole life costing

• Ability to think strategically and insightfully and to be able to work on own initiative, as well as leading and directing colleagues in the execution of project assignments.

• Problem-solving skills and to being open new ideas.

Minimum degree level qualification demonstrating a high level of numerical literacy and analytical skill

Professional qualified you will possess a commercial approach, excellent communication and negotiation skills.
