The Company

One of London’s most creative and entrepreneurial property consultancies, are looking for a graduate or assistant planning consultant to join their growing London team. They work with some fantastic clients and offer one of the best cultures for progression, and even take everyone away on a ski trip once a year! 

They have a fantastic mix which range from residential schemes with major housebuilders to more complicated mixed-use and commercial schemes. Some example clients they are working with include Hammerson, British Land, Land Securities, and major housebuilders like Berkeley Homes. 

You will be working in a dynamic forward thinking consultancy providing comprehensive advice on high profile projects. Working on a broad range of planning projects in the residential, commercial, of various types and scales, including exciting regeneration and place making opportunities.

The Role

The role will involve working closely with senior members of the team on a variety of schemes of different sizes and complexity. You will be involved in every stage of the projects and will have direct contact with clients.

 Key responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Promoting residential, commercial, energy and infrastructure developments (both Brownfield and Greenfield) and coordinating professional teams in the preparation and submission of major planning application
  • Conducting research and site appraisals on projects for the client base 
  • Preparation, submission and negotiation of planning applications 
  • Preparation of planning and economic statements 
  • Policy representations 
  • Developing client relationships 

It is essential that candidates: 

  • Have strong planning experience, particularly working on residential or mixed-use developments, preferably in consultancy 
  • Have a proven academic record - minimum requirement 2:1 in a relevant degree (RTPI accredited)  and or a relevant MA or MSc
  • Those already working towards the RTPI will be looked upon favourably 
  • Have an ability to undertake quantitative and sequential assessments 
  • Are committed and have an eye for detail 
  • Used to working with minimal supervision and have a strong ability to use their own initiative 
  • Are personable and have a strong team ethos 
  • Have excellent organisational and project management skills 
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Ideal Attributes

Candidates will need to have excellent interpersonal skills and be capable of fostering relationships with a wide variety of people. Given the number of schemes you must be well organised and able to prioritise. Excellent written communication skills are a pre-requisite for this position.

You should also have gained experience working already in a planning team for either a property consultancy or in a council.
