Job Details

Our client are a family-owned, multi award-winning, owner, operator and developer of care homes throughout the UK.

Aside from their high design ideals, they have family values at their core, ensuring that everything from design/build quality, through to the operational structure, is of the highest calibre. They are champions of independence in a supportive environment.

They undertake every phase of the development life-cycle internally, from site-origination through to operations and have an in-house dedicated construction arm.

They are currently seeking a Non-Executive Director with a background deeply-rooted in Construction to steer a programme of delivery - comprising 15 sites throughout the South East - valued at several £100million over the next 5 years.

The ideal applicant is likely to possess many of the following:

  • An entrepreneurial streak: may have managed their own construction business
  • Ethically sound: more about quality/design than squeezing margins
  • Demonstrable evidence of having assisted business growth aspirations
  • A deep understanding of construction methodologies, including groundworks, structures, fit-out, M&E, FF&E procurement
  • Doesn't need to be retired: could be working in a non-conflicting set-up.

The remit:

  • Review of procurement strategies/construction techniques to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
  • Offer guidance on corporate governance
  • Issues surrounding Health & Safety and Quality Control

The commitment:

  • 1 day in the board-room, 1 in the field (per month)
  • Visit one site/month
  • Validating board-packs in the field
  • Monthly board meetings in Essex

There is already one NED whose focus is more about corporate accountability, so would be working alongside this individual, with much more of a construction bias.

Our client are also considering branching out into retirement villages, and the potential of moving into the hotel sector, so someone with prior hotel experience would be valuable.

The successful applicant can expect a highly competitive day rate. Please, note, equity is not on offer in this instance and the appointee will not be responsible for chairing GMs.
