Director of Development

Up to £six figure salary plus up to £10,000 car allowance

Based in Manchester

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group manages nearly 14,000 properties across South Manchester, providing homes for more than 20,000 people. Our vision is to “Creating communities where people choose to live and work, having pride in their homes and value the services”.

Our Group strategy is to bring a diverse mix of tenures including shared ownership; rent to buy; outright sale and a mix of rental options to meet the range of needs of the community. We’re keen to build on our success and implement an ambitious growth plan which will see us develop 1,000 homes, with ambitions to take this higher taking us further afield than our core area of Wythenshawe. There’s no doubt that it’s an exciting time to join us.

Thinking in 5-year cycles, your long-term focus will be keeping WCHG one step ahead of the competition whilst maintaining a strategic overview of our annual development plans. You’ll also ensure that we secure a commercially viable, forward programme of schemes and oversee an asset strategy that allows us to expand whilst retaining total customer focus.

This is a role that demands operational and strategic leadership qualities. You’ll need the professional credibility to win trust and confidence quickly, with staff, with contractors and with our key development partners. A proven track record in a similar, senior-level role is essential, particularly where you have shaped and personally led a development strategy. An unwavering commitment to commercial excellence is important, supported by the flexibility to move between portfolios, prioritise outcomes and respond as our business evolves and grows. Accordingly, you’ll need to be comfortable with the demands of safety, legal and regulatory compliance, and contract management. An ability to manage, coach and influence a wide range of people and inspire strong performance through your leadership is also vital.

We are proud to hold the prestigious ‘Investors in People’ Platinum Status demonstrating our commitment to high performance through excellent people management. Our senior leadership team thrives on a collegiate, adaptable leadership style – and you’ll enjoy the opportunities for professional and personal development that this offers. Your focus will be to ensure that our ambitious development programme stays on track and delivers quality outcomes on time and on budget. Your contribution to the development of the Corporate Strategy and goals will be key, shaping the systems, environment and operational agility needed to grow our organisation in the right direction.
