Property Services, Inclusive Growth Directorate

As the largest local authority in the country with the biggest property portfolio we utilise the Council’s property and land assets to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and create income to support service delivery and to provide frontline services to the citizens of Birmingham.

Property Services provide an extensive range of professional services through the three key areas of Investment Property Management, Property Valuations/Sales and Operational Property Management.

We currently have eight opportunities for Principal Surveyors to join our thriving professional team, working across our key service areas.

The Role

You will be responsible for undertaking a variety of professional work including property management, valuation, acquisitions, property development and sales and associated professional work to support the City Council’s Land and Property Portfolio.

You will provide expert and guidance to Elected Members of the Council, Client Departments and the Assistant Director of Property, representing Property Services at directorate, inter-directorate and external meetings.

You will support the line manager in the management and supervision of staff and contribute to the preparation and implementation of work programmes. You will manage budgets in the business centre, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of services in accordance with Directorate standards and City Council policies.

Your Skills

The successful candidates will be RICS qualified with substantial experience of Professional Property work and in managing large projects. They will have experience in managing people either in the Public or private sector and be competent in monitoring budgets and performance.

You will have a high level of communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to persuade, mediate and conciliate with the public and other professionals. You will also have the ability to lead and motivate staff and be highly adaptable and responsive to changing work patterns, in order to support the Business and wider directorate.
