As the largest local authority in the country with the biggest property portfolio we utilise the Council’s property and land assets to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and create income to support service delivery and to provide frontline services to the citizens of Birmingham.

Property Services provide an extensive range of professional services through the three key areas of Investment Property Management, Property Valuations/Sales and Operational Property Management.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Property Development Manager to join our thriving professional team.

The Role

You will manage the Property Development Business Centre, delivering property-based development and regeneration projects and providing associated professional and valuation advice. You will complete a variety of professional work in connection with all categories of land and property as required.

You will prepare, implement and maintain work programmes in accordance with agreed performance management targets and ensure revenue budgets and financial procedures are adhered to.

You will contribute to the implementation of the Property Strategy which outlines the Council’s property portfolio agenda to develop Birmingham as a City of flourishing neighbourhoods. You will participate in partnership-working with the public and private sectors in order to identify, develop and manage joint venture opportunities to fulfil the aims of the portfolio.

Your Skills

The successful candidates will be RICS qualified with substantial post qualification property related experience in the public or private sector. This will include experience of managing large development projects, work programmes, budgets and resources with high quality outcomes.

You will have a high level of negotiation skills, with the ability to persuade, mediate, conciliate and provide specialist advice on complex development matters to the public and other professionals. You will also have the ability to lead and motivate staff and be highly adaptable in order to support and respond to changing needs within the Business and wider Directorate.
