As the largest local authority in the country with the biggest property portfolio we utilise the Council’s property and land assets to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and create income to support service delivery and to provide frontline services to the citizens of Birmingham.

Property Services provide an extensive range of professional services through three key areas; Investment Property Management, Property Valuations/Sales and Operational Property Management.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor to join our thriving professional team.

The Role

You will assist in the management of the City Council’s substantial and varied land and property portfolio. In particular, relating to the formulation and delivery of maintenance programmes, associated advice and procurement of services to deliver programmes of work for a wide range of property, including those in the Commercial, Surplus Property and Operational Portfolios. 

You will undertake project management and financial management duties relating to the identification, implementation and project management of schemes within the Capital Programme, together with other funded related building projects within Property Strategy / Asset Management Plan recommendations.  

You will assist with the establishment and management of the repairs and capital strategy for the Investment Portfolio, Operational Portfolios, and Surplus Properties Portfolio and to ensure that financial procedures are adhered to.

Your Skills

You will be a RICS qualified Surveyor with substantial experience of Building Management and Capital Project work.  You will have experience in managing people either in the Public or private sector and be able to lead and motivate staff.

You will have extensive experience of managing budgets and have excellent communication skills, providing complex reports and professional advice to the public and other professionals.  You will be highly adaptable in order to respond to changing needs within the business and wider directorate.
