Director of Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services

Competitive salary level plus excellent benefits and relocation support

The University of Sussex is a leading higher education and research institution. The first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961, Sussex is a successful, growing University with a top-30 place in the major UK higher education league tables. The University has a beautiful and diverse estate located in Falmer, to the east of Brighton and Hove. It is situated in the South Downs National Park and has amongst its buildings a core heritage estate designed by Sir Basil Spence.

The role of Director of Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services offers a challenging opportunity for a senior professional to lead a broad portfolio of services encompassing real estate development and management, facilities management and campus and commercial services. This large and diverse remit gives the Director the opportunity to play a crucial role in the realisation of the University’s ambitious Sussex 2025 Strategy https://www.sussex.ac.uk/strategy/ and the Chief Operating Officer’s vision for Sussex to benefit from the leading integrated professional services provision in the UK higher education sector. It is therefore a highly exciting time for an ambitious individual to take up this role at the University.

We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of initiating and developing real estate and facilities management strategies to support an organisation's corporate/institutional strategies and priorities. You will have worked within an organisation that has an estate portfolio of considerable scale and complexity and will have the experience and skills required to work successfully with a diverse range of external partners to realise strategies.

The role calls for an individual who demonstrates highly disciplined, proactive, collaborative, resourceful and delivery focused behaviours and who possesses the leadership and stakeholder management skills required to succeed within a large, complex organisation.
