Job Purpose

An excellent opportunity for an Associate/Senior Associate Surveyor to join and grow our expanding Party Wall and Neighbourly Matters team. This would a great opportunity for an ambitious surveyor looking to take the next step and build a team beneath them with excellent career progression opportunities available. 

 

Key accountabilities and deliverables

  1. Lead and grow the Party Walls team
  2. Support the creation and delivery of a Party Walls strategy
  3. Win new business and building client relationships
  4. Reviewing drawings, identifying Party Wall notifiable works, preparing and issuing fee proposals
  5. Advising clients and property owners on their rights and obligations under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996
  6. Researching ownership of neighbouring interests to development sites and collating into Schedules of Adjoining Owners
  7. Preparing and serving Party Wall Letters/Notices (including Sections 1, 3 & 6 Notices, 10-day letters, 10(4) appointment correspondence, Third Surveyor selection letters etc.)
  8. Considering information likely to be required in order to progress and conclude Party Wall matters and preparing Schedules of Information required for issue to the design team
  9. Preparing and negotiating Party Wall Awards with other surveyors
  10. Meeting with property owners and surveyors and relaying information regarding proposed development works and Party Wall implications
  11. Undertaking and preparing Schedules of Condition (condition surveys) for neighbouring properties to development sites
  12. Checking off Schedules of Condition (re-inspecting neighbouring properties) upon completion of development works to establish whether there has been any change in condition/damage caused to these properties
  13. Reviewing damage to neighbouring properties, establishing cause and whether this is attributable to adjacent development works.
  14. If necessary, negotiating/agreeing damage settlements and Awards with owners and neighbouring surveyors
  15. Taking responsibility for and updating of project tracker documents throughout a project lifecycle
  16. Attending and contributing to design team meetings
  17. Reviewing and advising clients and property owners on third-party considerations such as easements, access rights, boundary issues, adverse possession etc.
  18. Assisting with the preparation of Third-Party Obligation reports
  19. Reviewing site boundaries and title documentation, considering boundary structure ownership and boundary location
  20. Preparing, negotiating and agreeing of access licences/deeds such as for use of crane and scaffold over neighbouring land with neighbours’ surveyors and solicitors.

Key Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications

  1. Degree in Building Surveying, or equivalent
  2. MRICS
  3. Strategic thinker
  4. Proven ability to attract and retain clients to grow and build a team
  5. Proven track record of past projects being handed over to a very high standard of work
  6. Excellent organisational skills
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication at all levels
  8. Ability to build lasting relationships with clients and colleagues to achieve repeat and new business
  9. Meet and exceed fee targets

Person Specification

  1. Confident client-facing professional, ideally with a property or construction background
  2. Proven track record of past projects being handed over to a very high standard of work
  3. Excellent communication skills and ability to discuss projects with clients, colleagues and team members comfortably
  4. Good attention to detail, accuracy and diligence (in all situations such as whilst reviewing drawings and information, undertaking written work or whilst undertaking surveys and inspections)
  5. Possess good problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset
  6. Ability to manage own time and meet changing deadlines
