Fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager to work for a growing American developer in their London office as a Development Project Manager.

The Development Project Manager (DPM) will be responsible for working closely with the Development Director (DD), Associate Director of Development (ADD), Senior Development Manager (SDM), Design Manager (DM) and in-house Operations Team. They will report to and support the Associate Director / Senior Development Manager to develop and execute the delivery of projects within a portfolio composed of alternative residential assets including primarily PBSA and PRS.

You will be required to be:

  • Hands-on, dealing with day to day activities and exercise professional judgement to resolve difficulties including proposals for programme recovery and risk mitigation. Identification of potential construction related issues or contractual disputes and propose and manage appropriate solutions to any issues arising.
  • As directed by ADD and SDM deliver on site pipeline coordinating with DM to ensure main Contractors deliver to quality, time and cost expectations.
  • Alongside SDM and ADD manage all elements of post-planning pre-construction activities including design coordination, procurement, planning conditions, minor amendments to planning permissions.

In addition to procure and coordinate project team not limited to:


  • External Development Managers
  • External Project Managers
  • Employers Agent / QS's
  • Architects & Engineers
  • Ancillary consultants as required (fire, transport etc.)
  • Main Contractors
  • Enabling works Contractors

    • Establish meeting schedules and attend meetings as required across multiple projects in various locations across the UK and Ireland.
    • Ensure project team reporting matches with company internal processes
    • Establish Risk criteria and continue to monitor through risk registers.
    • Provide support to the ADD & SDM, providing technical know-how and ensuring company requirements and objectives are fully aligned to the design intent, safety by design criteria and the cost plan. Providing client representation on any communications to external stakeholders.
    • Manage the development and delivery process from inception through to delivery including aftercare to a successful conclusion.
    • Monitor the flow of information regarding project design among interested parties including investors, market research personnel, construction groups, consultants and architects. Carry out relevant follow up work to meetings ensuring actions are captured, distributed and closed out.
    • Ensure compliance with all internal company requirements, statutory, quality and health and safety standards including leading the Planning consent process.
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships; communicate and collaborate closely with internal Operational & Acquisition counterparts.
    • Report on project level progress and budgets, monitor consultant & contractor deliverables and address any deviations from plan.
    • Act as a team member with all employees.
    • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

    Experience required.

    • Degree in a construction related discipline.
    • Five to ten years of work experience with a professional real estate development organisation.
    • Chartered or working towards chartered status.
    • Experience in JCT and NEC forms of contract.
    • Familiarity with Design & Build forms of contract and specifically the Major Project Construction Contract.
    • Sound knowledge of all elements of the design and construction process.
    • Project management of new build and refurbishment developments throughout the project life cycle.
    • Ability to deal confidently with and support senior managers.
    • Ability to clearly communicate, deal with change and cope with the rigors of a fast- paced programme.
    • Experienced & confident with main contractors during the delivery phase, monitoring progress, quality and safety aspects of the contract and dealing robustly with any deviations.
    • Ability to utilise project management tools; MS project or similar, develop risk schedules and competent in the use of MS products.
    • Financially savvy with commercial knowledge of residential developments; able to carry out value engineering and interrogate cost plans.
    • Experience of implementing innovative and best practice techniques and standards in the context of student accommodation and PRS developments desirable but not essential.
    • Working client side within a Student accommodation organisation.
    • Experience of developing and refurbishment of student or residential properties
    • Use of project extranet collaboration sites such as Viewpoint (4projects).
    • Possesses the highest degree of integrity.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to adapt to a challenging and evolving business environment.
    • Ability to think creatively and contribute to project success.
    • Ability to work independently
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building skills (internal /external).
