The appointment of a new Senior Development Manager in the Strategical Land & Regeneration business unit is an important role in its new national structure.

Job Description

Working alongside the Development Director you will manage the development of major projects from initial acquisition to development and disposal. Initial focus will be to support the nationally significant Longbridge regeneration scheme.

Longbridge is a £1bn+ mixed use regeneration across 468 acres of the former MG Rover car plant in south Birmingham. To date 1,500 homes, 1m sq ft of commercial floor space and over 3,000 jobs have been created through the regeneration of 200 acres. So far the regeneration generates economic and social benefits of over £225m GVA per annum. An investment programme across the remaining 260 acres will complete the regeneration of Longbridge and deliver economic and social benefits of £500m GVA per annum.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help shape the local community. A member of the Major Projects team, you will have an active role in developing and supporting the development of complex, mixed-use, major projects. Your wide ranging will be multi-faceted and responsibilities will include:

  • Development and implementation of major projects, coordinating teams from across the business unit to manage all aspects of the development programme.
  • Helping to establish the strategic brief and business case
  • Leading and facilitating cross-functional project teams
  • Programme governance
  • Project planning, including producing and monitoring the detailed project plan
  • Co-ordinating the risk and opportunity management process
  • Monitoring and advising upon project finances
  • Preparing formal project progress and other reports
  • Acting as an interface between St Modwen and external consultants
  • Working alongside Planning to liaise with external bodies to achieve planning permission
  • Instigating, reviewing and challenging design proposals
  • Liaising with the Construction team and monitoring of construction processes
  • Contributing to the identification and securing of new development opportunities

The Successful Applicant

The Senior Development Manager will likely have:

  • Strong experience operating in the Major Projects area, preferably with a developer, consultant or agent
  • RICS qualification
  • Experience in pre contract Project management / Development Management
  • Multi sector experience - commercial, residential, industrial and logistics, retail / leisure
  • Able to lead a team to achieve common goals.
  • Good commercial acumen.
  • Good communication and relationship skills.
  • Strong collaboration ethos and values.
  • Ability to analyse and organise complex information and establish.
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of wider team.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter looking to progress their career
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills
