Estates Director (SCS2)

Salary: Circa £140,000 per annum, plus pension and benefits

Location: Flexible – Any DWP Hub location with a requirement to travel and fairly regular attendance in London. Current DWP hubs are London, Leeds, Sheffield, Blackpool, Newcastle and Manchester.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a Department that touches the lives of citizens the length and breadth of the UK. What we do matters. The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain will be in contact with us at some point in their lives.

Our Estates Director is accountable for the delivery of all real estate services including facilities management and project management either directly or through third party supplier partners across DWP’s portfolio of over 800 properties covering 1.3m square metres and providing workplaces for 84,000 employees. We have undergone major change recently, exiting a 20-year PFI contract and introducing a brand-new operating model to transform the way we deliver to the Department.

This is an unrivalled opportunity for an experienced and innovative real estate leader to provide strategic direction to a team of circa 100 colleagues and deliver our ambitious estates requirements and estates reform, as well as continue to develop our supply chain to focus on delivering service excellence and a superior customer experience. This role has accountability for more than £500m.

As a stand-out senior leader, who puts individuals at the heart of everything they do, you will be critical in helping us to embed operational excellence aligned to the needs of the department and the people we serve. This will be a hugely collaborative role, so we need someone who can build effective relationships with delivery partners and key stakeholders across the Government property community, with a real emphasis on driving best value for DWP and our customers.

This an exciting time for DWP Estates and this role offers the opportunity lead a team that is inspired to make a difference.
