Tameside Council is looking to recruit a Senior Planning Policy Officer who is keen to build their reputation and portfolio of planning experience. While the position is key to supporting progression of sub regional planning for Greater Manchester, it will also focus on delivering an up to date Local Plan for the borough.
As a highly motivated professional planner you will work within the Council’s small but dedicated Planning Policy team and will play an important role, where crucially you will lead, develop and advise on a range of planning policy matters. In addition, a passion for securing good urban design, transport and social infrastructure will be important as we continue our drive to deliver great places and sustainable development.
With relevant experience and knowledge, and in partnership with others, you will make a significant contribution to the regeneration and growth of the Borough through the innovative application of the National and Local Planning Policy. In return, we can offer you a chance to thrive, develop and make a lasting impact on Tameside.
The position is permanent with a competitive salary and offers opportunities for further training. Tameside is also a great place to live and work, only a short distance from Manchester City Centre and with the Peak District National Park on its doorstep. The role will be flexibly worked from home, but will also require attendance across the borough as necessary and at Dukinfield Town Hall.

Tameside Council and Tameside and Glossop CCG
GROWTH DIRECTORATE
Tameside Borough Council is embarking on a programme of radical change to meet the challenges of modern local government, public service reform and integrated health/social care. Fast paced improvement across the Council and the Tameside and Glossop CCG is being driven by a highly motivated, integrated leadership team, who are pushing the boundaries to dramatically change culture, modernise services and identify innovative ways to manage service demand.
Our Director of Growth has undertaken a review of the directorate’s services and is restructuring to align the resources with the Councils priorities.
Over the next few years a brand new garden village of 2,350 homes at Godley Green, a huge employment site at Ashton Moss and a business quarter will come to fruition in the borough. There are also plans to regenerate five town centres, bring forward major investment in infrastructure, develop the education estate, and deliver the aspirations of the Councils Strategic Asset Management Plan to utilise the Councils Land and Property to achieve Employment, Economic Growth and Housing.
Tameside Council’s overriding challenge is to guide these developments in a way that meets its aspiration to drive inclusive growth that benefits all of its diverse communities.
A new Local Plan will provide an opportunity to deliver high quality, sustainable developments that will really make an impact for current and future generations.
There are also schools and the corporate operational and commercial estates to build and maintain a Climate Change Emergency and the effects of Covid on the economy and the way we work to address.
‘It’s an exciting period for Tameside, there’s so much happening. That is why we think this is an exciting opportunity to join a new team with an ambitious and bold work programme – it is a great time to join us.
