As our Property Sales Manager, you will take the lead on a large housing stock, dealing with all aspects of Right to Buy (RTB) and other home ownership schemes and statutory compliance.

You will play a key role with us, helping shape and develop our service improvements and overall processes. By continually innovating our services and SLAs, you’ll evolve a truly cost-effective and efficient property sales team that can produce consistently outstanding work and act as a flagship for best practice.

In terms of experience, you will need a track record in home ownership initiatives and selling properties in a local authority and will also come with experience in leases to expertly process leaseholder applications to purchase the freehold interest in their building, staircase (shared owner), and/or extend leases.

Strong leadership and effective management are crucial, as you’ll oversee a team of up to four direct reports, including a team leader with direct reports, ensuring their work adheres to the statutory framework and agreed procedures. Regularly liaising with internal/external agencies and stakeholders is a big part of the role, including local councillors, government departments, surveyors, solicitors, and professional bodies. Being able to deal robustly with complaints, produce clear reports and confidently back your decision making with clear rationales are all essential.

You’ll be able to develop service improvements across policies and procedures, and combine this with an excellent knowledge of relevant housing issues, current and future leasehold/housing reforms, relevant legislation, council guidelines and relevant legal frameworks. A good knowledge of processes including service charges, major works, and reserve funds is also very useful.

We’re also looking for customer-focused candidates with excellent negotiation, communication and influencing skills, along with the ability to build strong working relationships, solve problems creatively and analyse data. You’ll also need strong IT literacy and relevant housing and management qualifications (or the equivalent experience).

At Hackney, we continually invest in our staff and strive to create an open, collaborative and creative culture where people can consistently succeed. We also offer an impressive range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, an unrivalled pension scheme, flexible working options, many family friendly policies and a variety of travel and leisure discounts.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

When applying, it is essential that you include a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Please ensure that you do not include your name on any of your supporting documents or on the file attachments.

Closing date for applications: 09 March 2021
