Ensure the Royal Air Force’s estate and facilities are fit for a Next Generation Air Force.

As one of the Government’s largest departments, The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a unique organisation in which to pursue your career goals. Across the Armed Forces, we share a commitment to protecting the UK, our values, our territories and our assets, so it is vital that we are capable of facing up to the measures presented by our adversaries. We live in a complex world in which military expansionism and terrorism are just two of the approaches used to undermine the UK way of life, and as such, we are focused on modernising the MOD in order to meet whatever challenges we are presented with. You could be at the heart of this work if you choose to lead the Royal Air Force’s Infrastructure Team, which is comprised of around 70 military and civilian personnel. This progressive team is utilising a multi-billion investment to deliver the estate and facilities that we will need for a Next Generation Air Force – and it is here that you could find an unparalleled opportunity.

Working across a large estate that includes 7034 built estate assets, you will tackle everything from advanced maintenance aircraft hangars, through to medical facilities, air traffic control towers, and single person living accommodation. With a focus on delivering the strategic Infrastructure Plan, you will transform this large estate, seeing to it that it is equipped to handle both current and future operational and personnel needs. Handling the day-to-day running of the estate and thinking long-term about the future of the RAF, you will maintain a close focus on safety and compliance, while ensuring a broad variety of programmes are being delivered within budget and agreed time scales. With both environmental and Net Carbon Zero goals to meet in the coming years, this is an opportunity to push your capabilities in a forward-thinking team. As you will have oversight of an infrastructure budget of around £500million, plus input into the development of the RAF’s £5.5billion costed 10-year infrastructure plan, you will be a highly astute, numerate and analytical individual who can make the best use of these finances.

This is a complex yet deeply interesting role that will provide you with access to career-defining opportunities. To be equal to the challenge, ideally you will be a professionally qualified individual (such as a Chartered Surveyor), with government or commercial property infrastructure and facilities experience within large / complex project initiatives. With a successful track-record in property asset management and generating capital from these assets, you will have a comprehensive awareness of the corporate planning cycle at a strategic level, and it would be ideal if this knowledge is linked to the development and delivery of Strategic Asset Management Plans. You will also need an understanding of sustainable and Net Zero carbon construction, coupled with a good knowledge of environmental issues, plus safety and compliance within property infrastructure. Commercially aware, you will be an inspirational mentor who leads by example, and you will have the capacity to manage complex stakeholder and contractor relationships – so you will also be a confident negotiator with excellent communication skills.

In return, you will benefit from a supportive, dynamic and inclusive workplace, with access to the types of projects that other employers simply cannot offer. We want you to thrive with us, so we will welcome your ideas and approaches, and your long-term development will be nurtured with sector-leading training and development opportunities. You will also benefit from a competitive package that includes 32 days of leave (inclusive of public holidays), access to the civil service contributory pension scheme, hybrid/remote working and the scope to work flexible hours.
