Cobalt Recruitment is excited to be working exclusively with a highly respected UK property company with offices across the UK. The Company owns £800 million of real estate across 6 million sqft - primarily office, industrial, retail, mixed-use and residential property.

The business focuses on investment acquisition and development of properties to unlock their full potential, working with their customers, stakeholders and local people to build real, sustainable communities.

Their Building Surveying Team play a vital role in coordinating construction related issues across the portfolio and are the primary source of technical advice to internal colleagues including Leasing, Asset Management and Investment. With responsibility for Project Management activities and professional services, they seek to obtain best value for the business.

Due to a growing portfolio and injection of funds into the business, the team are looking to recruit a talented and 'Hands-on' Senior Building Surveyor to join our established, close-knit group of Surveyors.

Predominantly working on commercial office property, the Building Surveyor will be part of, and work closely with, the Investment Management team in all matters relating to properties and the dilapidations and refurbishment programme to ensure premises are presented in their optimum condition to re-let or altered to accommodate customer requirements. With numerous refurbishment projects across CAT A & B fit out, it is key to ensure all projects are completed within agreed budget, specification and timescales.


  • £55,000-£70,000 base salary

Contract Management & Project Management Duties

Refurbishment projects - £10,000 to £3million

Professional Work

Alongside the project work, you will assist with professional work, including Schedules of Dilapidations and negotiations, building pathology, fire insurance valuations and Licenses for Alterations.


An awareness of Energy & Sustainability aspects on commercial property and an ability to work alongside consultants in implementing energy saving and sustainability measures will be a critical value added element of the Building Surveying teams role within a new investment fund portfolio with a value of circa £500m.


  • Professional qualification (RICS, CIOB or equivalent) *Ideal*
  • Project Management/Contract Administration experience of CAT A & Cat B refurbishment, specifically with experience of refurbishment and reconfiguration of existing building stock
  • Experience in building contract procurement and management, building construction and defect identification/resolution
  • Dilapidations experience
  • Experience in a similar role within the commercial real estate sector
  • Able to work autonomously & self-motivated
  • Ideally located in the Home Counties and prepared to travel as necessary to service the UK wide portfolio
