Property Acquisition Managers x6

Birmingham & London

We’re building a brand-new railway line for the UK, which will create new capacity and act as a catalyst for economic growth, helping to level-up the country.  HS2 trains will link over 25 stations from London to Scotland, including 8 of Britain’s 10 largest cities.

To date, HS2 Ltd has permission to build Phases 1 and 2a, which is 176 miles of railway from London to Crewe, via Birmingham.  This requires a significant land acquisition programme to enable the construction and operation of the new railway.

We’re growing our Land and Property team in order to deliver one of the biggest land acquisition programmes the UK has ever seen.  We need to do this whilst continuing to enhance the claimant experience and ensure value for money for the taxpayer.

Michael Eckett, the Head of Acquisitions states “we are seeking surveyors and property professionals who want to become part of this once in a lifetime opportunity to join one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe.  This is a dynamic and complex project and we want individuals who are enthusiastic, keen to develop and grow their careers.”

We’re recruiting into a variety of roles and for people at various stages in their careers.  We’re particularly keen to recruit individuals with experience in rural and agricultural businesses and property, since much of the line runs through rural areas.  Experience of compulsory purchase is always helpful, however, individuals will be joining a diverse and supportive team and there will be plenty of opportunities for formal and informal training and development.

We have various positions and multiple hires into roles such as:

Lead Acquisition Manager Phase 2a

This is an opportunity to lead the Phase 2a team as it embarks on the land acquisition programme for the Birmingham to Crewe leg of HS2.  Proven leadership experience and knowledge of compulsory purchase in a rural setting will be a real asset.

Senior Property Acquisition Manager x3

We’re looking for experienced property professionals in areas including compulsory purchase and rural practices.  As well as HS2 Ltd investing in your knowledge and development, it is expected that you will mentor and support colleagues through both formal line management and informally across the team.

Property Acquisition Manager x6

You will have responsibility for managing acquisition cases along the route.  Working as part of a team, you will set the direction for cases and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

Assistant Property Acquisition Manager x1

This is an opportunity if you have recently started out in career.  There will be the ability to become RICS qualified and gain a wealth of experience and knowledge in land acquisition, compensation and negotiation.

Closing date: 19 September 2021.

Let’s add value that lasts

With 240 sites now active along the route between London and the West Midlands, employing over 13,000 people with tens of thousands more jobs supported through the supply chain, the size and scale of HS2 means that there are fantastic career development opportunities and we invest in our people to encourage their personal development and we’re looking for more talented people to join us.

HS2 is a unique opportunity. With the expert input of our procurement, commercial and contract professionals, this high-speed railway will change the future of the country.

An estimated 400,000 supply chain contract opportunities for UK businesses will be created during Phase One of HS2, supporting thousands of jobs on site and many more around the country. It is estimated that around 95% of those contract opportunities will be won by UK based businesses and around two thirds of those will be small and medium sized businesses.

Our close-knit teams of passionate professionals are working on once-in-a-generation projects and setting new benchmarks for sustainable, high value commercial practice, for example in November, we released £12 billion worth of supply chain contracts to be let over the next 18 months and held a 4-day virtual event to showcase the opportunities available and advise businesses on how to get ‘contract ready’.  It was the first time we’d held the event in a virtual setting and moving to an online setting was driven by the pandemic.

The event was a huge success, with over 6,200 seats filled at 24 webinars and over 800 1-to-1 meetings delivered between our contractors and new, potential suppliers.  The supply chain demand is certainly out there and British businesses are eager to get on board and benefit from the estimated 400,000 supply chain contracts available.

These teams will help change the future of the country, leaving a legacy of economic and commercial prosperity – join us, and together our ideas will go further.

We’re looking for experienced, enterprising people to lead commercial activities and manage consultant and contractor relationships on Phase Two route development. This will involve making sure your team of Commercial and Contract Managers are delivering value for money and that fair and effective commercial management processes are implemented and maintained during the entire project.

The size and scale of HS2 offers a broad range of career opportunities. Applicants who may not have traditionally considered a career in the construction and rail engineering sectors are encouraged to sign up to HS2’s Talent Pools for a skills match assessment. Where there is a skills match, which takes account of essential and transferrable skills, applicants will be invited to apply for roles.
