Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) is an NHS Trust providing acute and specialist healthcare for around a million people annually.  With a workforce of 14,500, services are delivered from five hospitals in central and west London – Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s, and The Western Eye, as well as a growing number of community services. Formed in 2007, the Trust has a rich heritage and an ambitious vision for the future of its patients and local communities, and a long track record in research and education, influencing care and treatment nationally and globally.  Developing a growing range of integrated and digital care services, ICHT also offers private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all sites.

As well as being part of the Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre, the Trust, in partnership with Imperial College London, hosts one of 20 National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs), and is also part of the NIHR Health Informatics Collaborative (NIHR HIC), together with several other NHS Trusts around the country. Furthermore, it is a major provider of education and training for doctors, nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals including therapists, pharmacists, radiographers, and healthcare scientists.

The Trust is now seeking a Director of Estates and Facilities to join its senior management team.  Responsible for the Trust’s estate and built environment; the portfolio also includes oversight of soft facility management, in the context of supporting the Trusts broad roles in clinical, teaching, research, residential and other business activities.  A key leadership role, the appointed individual will need to deliver value for money alongside transformation and improvements. Responsible for advising on, and producing, the Trusts estates strategy, consistent with the corporate business objectives and implementing estate components of planning decisions, this is a high-profile and complex role that will require a sophisticated suite of relevant experience and personal attributes.  The preferred candidate will also play a key role in supporting the Redevelopment Director in production of the long term redevelopment plan and implementation of the redevelopment plan alongside the continued operational running of the estate.

The Director of Estates and Facilities will need to nurture a strong sense of teamwork among managers in the estates and facilities function and establish solid and credible working relationships with the executive directors, divisional directors, redevelopment director team, corporate directors, senior nurses, midwives, doctors, and senior managers throughout the Trust. Given the high profile of Estates and Facilities within the Trust it will be imperative that they bring a strong blend of personal and professional qualities, including the ability to work with a wide range of internal clinical, administrative, and academic colleagues and with a wide range of individuals and organisations outside the Trust and, within the context of the North West London collaborative ICS.

We are seeking a resilient individual with experience of operating within comparably complex, customer facing environments, someone skilled in leading change and continuous development, and a natural collaborator with an engaging and persuasive style.  You will provide dynamic commercial leadership to the Trust in leveraging sustainable benefits from the Trust’s Estate and be able to demonstrate gravitas and diplomacy for dealing with an array of stakeholders as a representative of the Trust. Above all else, you will share our passion for delivering patient centred and sustainable services, a drive for excellence in delivering across the portfolio, and share and exhibit the Trusts values in this highly visible leadership role.
