Job Details

Our client is a leading multidisciplinary contractor that delivers innovative engineering solutions across the civil engineering and construction sectors including Rail, Highways, Airport, Marine, Energy, Water, Environmental infrastructure. Their success is founded on an ability to deliver in challenging environments and regularly winning repeat business from established clients. Currently seeking an CTA Qualified Tax Advisor (Indirect tax) ideally from engineering / construction background (however not essential) who will be responsible for all aspects of tax with a specific focus on VAT, Customs and CIS compliance. The client offers flexible working pattern. The candidate will report directly to the Tax Compliance Manager

Key responsibilities for the new Appointee will include: 

Timely and accurate tax compliance obligations, including:

  • Preparation of the VAT returns for companies and JVs Preparation of other supplementary returns Preparation of CIS monthly returns

Assist the team in other areas of tax that include but are not limited to:

  • Provision of tax technical advice to the business on VAT, Customs, CIS and other taxes Provision of tax training to the various teams within UK Group on VAT, Customs and CIS compliance obligations Provision of support to the business on a day-to-day basis with regards to post implementation of MtD, DRC and new ERP system in 2021; Provision of support to other tax team members as required

Other areas of work will include:

  • Technical research General admin duties Liaising with other departments to assist them with tax queries:

- Internal: Tax Manager(s), Head of Tax, Site Teams / Support Centre, Colleagues, Finance Teams

       - External: HMRC, Advisors

  • Maintaining and updating working knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including new filing practices, deadlines, and any company-specific information

The Successful Candidate will be/have: 

  • CTA qualified/ part qualified or qualified by experience Can be from practice or industry Knowledge/experience of VAT, and preferably Customs and CIS; General understanding of accounting standards and practices; Attention to detail; Ability to adapt and learn quickly; Proficient with analysing financial data; Computer-literate; Excellent research skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Self-motivated; Comfortable working under pressure; Strong and effective management of tight and conflicting deadlines Advanced Excel Good analytical skills Customer service driven Ability to work under time pressure
