Job Details

Our client is a highly successful premium accommodation provider with buildings across London, Surrey, Ireland, Australia and soon to be the US. They are seeking a Senior Asset Finance Manager with property background to join their operational finance team based in North Yorkshire office and overseeing the accounting for the property assets operational activities including rent, service charge, property expenses and VAT and ensuring high performance and accuracy is in place.  

Other responsibilities will also include adding controls and procedures to lower the risk of errors and play a leading part in specifying and implementing the new system. 

The role will also require occasional travel to London head office - 1-2 days a quarter. 

 

Key responsibilities for the new Appointee will include:  
 
Financial Control  

Introduce better controls around reporting to enable faster, more accurate reporting. 

  • Understand the inputs, calculations and outputs of the operational asset management reporting. 
  • Assist with the annual audit process of the operation assets with the external auditor. 
  • Ensure controls surrounding purchases and payments are adhered to and documented. 
  • Alongside the management accountants in the team review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and, at quarter end, prepare reconciliation reports for review by the financial controller.  
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller/ Finance Director to highlight any issues or concerns on a timely basis. 

People Management  

  • Manage the operational finance team, including two direct reports and three indirect reports.  
  • Provide coaching to the direct reports to grow responsibility, improve skills and increase autonomy within the team.  
  • Set objectives, appraise performance, and motivate the team.  

VAT 

  • Ensure the VAT accounting complies with relevant taxation regulations. 
  • Ensure VAT reporting to tax advisors and company accountant is accurate and timely.   
  • Build a strong working relationship with auditors' and tax advisers. 
  • Ensure day to day compliance activities are properly run. 

Finance Systems 

  • Fully understand and control the finance systems ensuring access and authority lines are up to date and in line with Board/ Senior management approvals. 
  • Note: The existing accounting software and property management software are due for upgrade or replacement. Likely timetable: to start in 1 – 2 years from now.   
  • Work closely with the project manager to lead/aid with the on-boarding of the new accounting system. 

Asset Operational Performance  

  • Understand, document and share budget variance analysis 
  • Ensure regular management information and key performance indicators are prepared and provided the wider business (and clients where requested). 
  • Support the business to understand operational performance and be part of a team across the business that works to control costs and to enhance operational performance.  
  • To work closely with the other operational functions of the business to ensure reporting meets their needs.  

The Successful Candidate will be/ have:  

  • Property accounting experience, including VAT 
  • Experience of managing finance teams 
  • Qualified and experienced accountant  
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
